In web development, the technical term for those popup menus with multiple columns and headings inside is a "mega menu" and I just added one to PieFed. It unifies the topics and feeds menus into one.

I'm yet another lemm.ee refugee looking for a new home. I signed up to piefed.social, and in the process was required to select at least three interests. That seems to have been used to sign me up to 58 separate communities, none of which I actually wanted to be signed up to! I can see how it can be a good way to fill new users' feeds and give them a starting point, but I'd really like to see an option to say "Don't add me to anything, I'll handle it from here". Unsubscribing from all of those was painful.

Spammers, trolls, and ban evaders often use temporary email addresses. PieFed now checks a list of known temporary email providers and displays a warning icon next to registrations that use such services.

Delegate some admin jobs to mini-admins ("Staff") Features

Sometimes there are people keen to help run an instance but you don't know them well enough to give them ALL the keys. PieFed lets you control which parts of the admin area you want a 'Staff' role to have access to and then assign accounts to that role.

Tired of your instance getting pounded by bots and scrapers? Solved.

Instances that are not trying to attract a new audience might want to turn on the new Private Instance setting, which makes everything private. The home page, posts, communities, etc will all require a login to view. Bots and scrapers won't be able to get anything useful from your instance and will stop trying.
