What actors/actresses make you immediately not want to make a movie/show?

submitted by

For me it's The Rock and Chris Pratt.

Guardians of the Galaxy was great but I just wish he would stop playing starlord in every other role he's in!

Not a specific performer, but I avoid the It Girl stuff like the plague.

Sydney Sweeney, Jenna Ortega, Selina Gomez, those types where they're going to be super hot products for a few years while they're young and then they fall off once they age out of prime fuckability. I find it super disturbing, it's like a sword is hovering over them.

Jonah Hill

I don't know why, I know nothing about him and I even had to look up his name because I had no idea what his name was. But there's something that upsets me badly.

Jon Hamm might have bodies hidden somewhere. That guy sets off so many red flags for me, but is beloved by everyone. I'm telling you, I'm pretty sure he might be evil.

I think just that the boring kind where you divorce your partner after becoming successful

The woman that played Cameron on "Halt and Catch Fire". Couldn't enjoy "Station 11" because she was in it.

Why don't you like her? I'm not familiar with much of her work but literally stopped watching Black Mirror after the episode she was in because I knew it was going to get depressing again.

Its probably because her character in Halt and Catch Fire was probably the most unlikeable character. I'm aware that's a terrible reason to dislike an actor. I can't even say it's because how she played the character as I have no idea how much was her vs director or writer.

Mel Gibson.

I renamed my cat because of this guy. I don't really like to change animals names from what it was at the shelter in case they're used to it, and I have a cat named Mel, who I suspect was named for him because there was another nearby cat in the shelter he came from named "Gibson".

So I've renamed him after Mel Brooks.

Its common for shelters to name the pets themselves, as they don't always come with one. They might have just been going down common famous names with no real intent behind it. My cat was originally named Miami, and her brothers and sisters all had american city names too.

I just can’t believe he asked Winona Ryder if she was an “oven dodger.” Wtf

I’m sad that I like a film of him, 'We were soldiers'.

But I like the film because my dad took me to the cinema to see it, not because of the film itself.

Childhood’s trauma stuff and shits, that’s how it is and too bad it’s a Mel Gibson movie 🤷🏻‍♂️

I loved that film as it was a good film. Even Mel's baggage can't wreck it. Sam Elliott's character was brilliant especially.

This is the first one I agree with. Everybody else, they've had good ones, and they've had bad ones, but their name alone doesn't ruin anything for me.

I've heard there's some weird stuff around Leto, so that might be worth avoiding him, but I never really paid attention, and I don't think about that guy at all.

Boss Level looked interesting. When I found out he was in it...nope.

Absolutely. Take your bigoted self and go away Mel.

Jared Leto

For the most part I’d agree. But he was honestly pretty good in Dallas Buyers Club. Most everything else I can think of is shit.

What about American Psycho, I thought he was fine in that?

Indeed. Forgot about that one.

I think he nailed the character in Bladerunner 2049, but maybe it suited him so it worked.

All credit goes to the director, as Denis gets top notch performances from every single person in his films.

It probably helped that he had a relatively minor role in it too. The face of his faction of characters in the film was Luv

Saw him in real life once... he yelled "shut your mouths" to his fans chanting for him to come outside. His whole appearance that day and how he treated those around him has forever made me dislike him.

Tom Cruise I just don't like anything about him

Will Smith, because he's annoyed me in every role after Prince of Bel Air

I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise either, but I love Edge of Tomorrow. That might be my only exception

I enjoyed watching Tom Cruise die over and over and over and over and over.

I'm just here to watch the bird people fuck

I am no fan of Tom Cruise, but his performance in Tropic Thunder is a god damned masterpeice

Take a step back, and literally FUCK YOUR OWN FACE!

Minority report was pretty damn solid too. Knght and day wasn't bad for guilty pleasure

I liked Tom a lot in Collateral. Such a great movie.

I don't have a problem with Tom Cruise as an actor, but ever since my daughter pointed it out, I can't help staring at his tooth.

If you stare too deeply into the tooth, the tooth stares back into you.

Toofs

Nope. Toof. Singular.

He has a front tooth. Where most of the rest of us have two upper front teeth, co-captains of the mouth, he has one right there in the middle.

Wait until you watch Legend and see his teeth before he had work done.

My one co captain tooth is in front of another despite years of braces :( slowly leading to a central tooth and worries that I'll have to get the misplaced one removed

Hate the person, love the actor. He's made loads of good movies, so I can't complain

Be glad Will Smith turned down being Neo in The Matrix... To do Wild Wild West!

I mean there's a list of actors that have ruined their shows for me:

  • Danny Masterson
  • Bill Cosby
  • Kevin Spacey
  • James Franco
  • Kevin Sorbo
  • Tom Cruise

So it's not really what you asked because these are ones that I used to love and no longer do.

For the dumbest reasons, I can't enjoy Gal Gadot. Her acting is repellent to me for some reason. Yes, she's absolutely gorgeous but the acting ain't great. I also didn't enjoy Heather Graham's acting but then I watched her in Scrubs and the role was just perfect. I hated The Rock's acting as well, but my ex had a crush on him so we watched so many of his movies. Almost all of them shite.

Gadot being pro genocide is a good reason not to support her

I had an internal laugh to myself in the Wonder Woman movie when the Amazons had an Israeli accent. I guess it was easier to train everyone else to mimic her accent than it was for her to not let it slip.

Kevin Spacey has been great or straight up magnificent consistently, lol, is it the moral aspect that disturbs you? I firmly believe (and evidence keeps piling up!) that most Hollywood actresses were couch casted, many boys were touched and the cycle repeats. The entire entertainment industry is compromised and has been for years (check out who taught Diddy his tricks). Nvm the "Hollywood accounting" too, money laundering and all of that.

Basically, if you're enjoying American media, odds are it was made by someone who's gonna go straight to Hell, no "Go" no 200 bucks, and bigger odds than whoever is making money out of your purchase/rental is going to an even lower circle, lol. Just pirate it and you take away your contribution to amorality, right?

A lot of actors are terrible people but Kevin Spacey specifically seems to play it up irl for some reason?

After he got booted for the whole thing he started making videos on his YouTube channel telling the world that he would come for them and that they would regret hurting him while in character as a villain from projects he's worked in in the past.

He's the only actor I know of that knows exactly why people don't want to see him and continues to play into that specifically for some reason...

His accusers started dying shortly after he uploaded those videos. Enough so, that the rest dropped their lawsuits.

Which Rock movies aren't shite? I recall enjoying the Rundown, but that was also well before reaching the current saturation point

lol dude, I watched Baywatch, San Andreas, Rampage, SkyScraper, Jumanji and Central Intelligence from what I remember with my ex. I swear to God those movies get blurred in my mind due to his "samey" character/acting.

I think some of the movies you could argue that aren't shite of the Rock's are Rundown, Jumanji, Moana, and maybe some of the Fast and Furious movies. Although, I never really watched those (I've only see the first) but other people seem to enjoy them.

What's the deal with Sorbo?

Oh, he went right-wing religious. I think he was a Jan 6th denier/supporter saying it was antifa. His views on atheists was weird. Like, when he did the Gods Not Dead movie and he was playing an "atheist" he was like, I had to get into the mind of an atheist and be the most despicable person or something.

He's been a bit looney on Twitter for a while now.

Although I haven't checked in for a while. I haven't checked since awkward Hitler took over.

Oh he is on Twitter. Gotcha.

Kevin Hart- doesn't act, plays himself but doesn't lean into that like Ryan Reynolds does. Will Smith- more of the above in recent years Jonah Hill- something inside me screams asshole every time I look at him Tom Cruise- he can take his propaganda elsewhere.

Jonah hill isn't a shitty person for not wanting to be referred to as the fat comedian. People only saw him in his personal life in shitty interviews and thats why people think hes an asshole.

Check out the Edgar wright interview, they were very aware of it even when superbad was just coming out. FYI that interview is a bit.

I will definitely take a look at that! Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that this was because of weight. He just ends up coming off as very snooty in a lot of his serious roles to me. He gives villain vibes in those roles, genuinely never watched an interview of him personally tbh.

Apologies I was referring more to popular opinion than your specific opinion. I can't think of a movie that fits the word snooty though, do you have an example? I could maybe see that from the movie "Don't worry, he won't get far on foot".

Kevin Hart

Ryan Reynolds (other than Deadpool)

Will Smith, after that slapping Chris Rock nonsense

Oh and (am Asian and tried to give her a chance but) Akwafina makes me cringe

Honorable mention: Adam Sandler makes me very wary. I get that he likes making movies with friends, but goddang his lows are low. Although recently I thought Uncut Gems was good

Awkwafina is good in the new black mirror.

I +1 that Will Smith sentiment.

I feel like a hypocrite somewhat, since I'm aware of other actors who did far worse things and yet I'm not as put off in a similar manner. I guess it's easier to separate the art from the artist in some people more than others...

He was great in action/comedy big blockbuster flicks but that Oscar slap made him super insecure and uncool. Like he lost his swag. Will Smith doesn’t sell that he’s That Guy anymore

Holy shit idk how I forgot to mention Kevin Hart!

Agree with the Awkwafina sentiment, I think for me it's that she got famous for her music/comedy (not sure which had the most impact in her career) then slipped into acting like Kevin Hart and other comedians tend to do.

Not that it shouldn't be done, but I feel like she hasn't really proven herself on screen. Also, the Awkwafina moniker is a bit detrimental if being taken seriously on stage is her goal.

Seriously with Will Smith. How am I supposed to see him in some emotional role with depth when all I see is a fragile man who can't manage his own ego.

Uncut Gems was a damn masterpiece, pure stress and anxiety from start to finish. He deserved an Oscar nom for that at the least.

  • Adam Sandler

  • Jennifer Lopez

  • "Insert ex-Saturday Night Live actor here"

  • Leonardo DiCaprio (I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I've believed he was a shit actor forever and there's a reason it took him so long to get an oscar...and it wasn't because of "snubbing"...he was just routinely shit up until the Revenant.)

  • John Travolta

  • Jennifer Lawrence (Up until recently, she was literally the female DiCaprio. Everything I said about him applied to her. Unlike DiCaprio, she got far far better rather quickly and my issue with her nowadays is mostly her choice of movies just aren't my jam.)

  • Tom Cruise

Hey now on SNL, bill Hader is awesome especially after Barry. And Phil Hartman

Ha! I was going to pipe up just to mention Bill Hader! He's apparently quite anxious about improv but he's also just so good.

Phil Hartman has honestly been gone for so long now I've forgotten him. But yeah, you are correct.

As for Bill Hader. He's the best of a bad bunch, and he's okay, but being one of the better SNL alums is a very very low bar to cross.

And I mean, yeah...I should definitely clarify that I'm not talking about classic SNL (Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, etc...) That generation made great films after their careers at SNL ended.

Yeah it is a low bar, but check out Barry if you haven't for sure.

Also enjoyed him in superbad

Tom Cruise

This. I'm sure Mission Impossible series are entertaining action movies, but I really can't stand looking at his smug face.

I’m a huge fan of the original Mission Impossible TV series from the 60’s and 70’s. I’ve watched the entire series a few times now. I can’t stand what Cruise did to the franchise, especially since he basically plays the same thrill seeking character in all his recent movies.

Seth Rogan

Will Farrell's later stuff

Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn was perfectly cast for Bad Monkey, IMO. He fit the role well, so he worked well for it.

He's solid (in my opinion) in Brawl in Cell Block 99 also, as one of his non-comedy roles.

Rogan's ok in something that's written for him, otherwise he stick out like a seth rogan sized dogs bollock

Will Ferrell. He gives me the creeps and he isn't funny.

He plays an immature man-child in almost every single role. I didn't find it funny the first time and I haven't found it funny the 50th.

Adam Sandler

it was the same for me about Sandler until I saw Uncut Gems, finally he showed that he can act.

The reason he's good in Uncut Gems (and Punch Drunk Love) is that there is something genuinely frightening in how unhinged he seems when he is acting.

He can act but that movie was beyond stupid. I'm convinced the only reason it did well with critics is exactly what you said - they were surprised he could actually act.

It did so well because it was incredibly accurate. Its fantastically written too, which has nothing to do with Sandler.

He just chooses not to. Not sure that's any better.

Haven't seen that one. Might check it out.

Good grief, another one I was going to mention that's already covered.

His movies are mostly bad, I think you and I might agree on that.

But the other aspect of it is that a lot of the people I knew who liked his early movies were just really shitty humans. So by association, I think that affected how I saw his movies. Just seemed like a magnet for terrible people and it was hard to separate those two things for me. Not to mention, the movies themselves were objectively somewhere between awful and just not that great, so I didn't feel like I was missing out much.

Oh, and I got "dragged" to that movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry IN THE THEATER. And that reasserted everything I already knew to be true about Adam Sandler movies.

IMO, he has been playing the same over-grown man-child of a character in every movie for 20 years (with exceptions).

Also Happy Madison studios wrote Dana Carvey a blank check to make one of the worst movies ever made and that was the last nail in the coffin for his acting career.

Shia LeBeouf, though he's mostly gone away at this point.

He's following you, about 30 feet back.

Actual cannibal, Shia LeBeouf...

Well, now I need to watch it again.

He's awesome in Fury, as everyone is in that movie

That movie changed my mind on Jon Bernthal, he was so good in it. I had only seen him in the first season of Walking Dead and thought he was pretty bad. I think most of that was just the show though, the dialogue was terrible.

The walking dead is ridiculously awful. Theres always a show like that out though. Yellowstone was pretty recent. Greys anatomy. Right now I think 911 qualifies. Horrible writing but somehow crazy popular.

That was a surprise, usually hate him

Owen Wilson. Something about him just makes me queasy.

Adam Sandler, with the exception of punch drunk love, maybe. I wanted to like tough cut gems, but I have up or of serving hand cringe

Yo, came here to say Owen Wilson! I can't stand him. It makes me sad that he's in all those Wes Anderson movies, because he's a good director otherwise.... :-/

The Owen Wilson co-written ones are the best by miles. I will fight over this.

Will Smith and Jared Leto for sure (including 2049, which was a disgrace compared to the masterpiece that is the original, despite me loving Arrival, Dune Part I and Sicario).

I also cannot stand anyone meant to appeal only to Americans, like Kevin Hart, Chevy Chase, Queen Latifah and all that stuff. Used to like Tom Hanks in the 1990s, but after that he became part of the latter group for me.

If you are ever going to try again watching a The Rock movie (I don't mind him at all, although not being calling me to watch a movie), please make it Hercules: that movie genuinely surprised me.

2049 is great. i think he's a cringey prick but if jared leto's screen presence can't kill fight club, american psycho, or requiem for a dream, he definitely can't kill blade runner.

i know lots of people prefer the original (and of course it's by far more influential) but you're the first i've seen call it a disgrace.

2049 is not bad because of (only) Leto.

He was actually good in Requiem.

Hugh Grant. I'm sure he's both a wonderful person and a great actor, but... he seems to have gotten typecast into a certain type of movie that I just cannot stand. He's become a litmus test for movies I should just not bother watching.

Try Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. I love Hugh in that movie and I’m not really a Hugh Grant guy either.

Yeah, I never really liked him before, but I'm down with his recent villain arc.

I’d recommend watching Heretic. I thought he crushed it as a bad guy. I also liked him in The Gentleman. Both are far from his Notting Hill and Two Weeks Notice romcom type stuff.

Wtf, Hugh Grant as a bad guy? I'm intrigued.

Yes, that Oompa Loompa was nasty.

I watched this when I had covid and holy shit i was not in a fit mental state to deal with hugh grant oompa loompas

Dungeons and Dragons, Heretic, Paddington 2...

He's been doing a lot of villain movies recently and he is FANTASTIC at being the bad guy!

I agree that he is awful as the main character though... I want to see him defeated!!!

He's great as a villain in Heretic and, oddly enough, in Paddington too.

Yes heretic was pretty good, recommended.

The Rock is definitely overused, but he f** killed it in the Rundown with Sean William Scott. I love Sean Williams Scott

I’m surprised to see no Chris Pratt (or CP, as he likes to be called) in this thread.

But Chris Pratt for me.

Chris Pratt is one of my big ones... Can't stand the guy

He's doing ads for some religion based mobile app. He even sucks in those.

I absolutely loved him in Parks and Rec. He was always my favourite character. But that's probably because he was just playing himself.

Everything I've seen him in after parks and rec has been bad, and I agree he is not a good actor.

Full agree. He was amazing in Parks and Rec!

Ooof he does know what cp stands for right

I know what it means, but isn't there a more accurate term (and acronym) that's being used more now?

Looked it up: CSAM - child sexual abuse material.

Legally yes, but common lexicon persists

Crease pattern if you are into origami.

I’m surprised nobody’s said Ezra Miller yet.

Also Noah Centineo, Shailene Woodley, and - she seems like a sweet person but - Kristen Stewart.

Plus any Disney/Nickelodeon kids who never grew up past that phase; like Debby Ryan or Bella Thorne (though I don’t think she’s done much lately).

ETA: Lacey Chabert, as she’s exclusively in Hallmark-type slop now. It’s concerning.

Leonardo DiCaprio. I can never believe he is the character I always see an actor trying to portrait a character. Like with other actores I can believe I am seeing something that happened. With DiCaprio I'm always aware that I'm watching an actor doing a performance.

I don't know if that makes a lot of sense. But it's one of the few "good" actor that makes me feel this way.

Oddly enough I enjoyed catch me if you can. Maybe because the movie was based on a true story. So more for the plot than anything.

He did an incredible job in Django Unchained, but other than that I would agree with you. I don't believe it is his fault though, more a result of how he is always cast.

Agreed, but I still love Inception.

Loved him in wolf of wallstreet, really buried into the character.

Yep he's really not that great

Amber Heard, Will Ferrell, Rodney Dangerfield, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Poor guy can't get no respect

Maybe he could have tried being funny.

You can tell my generation has mostly aged out of social media because no one has said Pauly Shore.

What's wrong with Pauly Shore?

He aggressively hit on my sister once

What's right with Pauly Shore? And please state your age.

Aw man, I already regret asking. Asking about an actor that you only know from 90's movies is a rookie mistake

I don’t switch anything off faster than when Danny McBride shows up

I used to think he was just a crass asshole but after watching and then loving Righteous Gemstones, he grew on me. Gemstones is such a crazy, hilarious, and satisfying show and the fact that he created/showran it changed my mind about him

Eastbound and down is pretty wild too. His sense of humor is always one step ahead of me for some reason and it works.

Two things I can stand him in: tropic thunder and this is the end.

For me, it was American Ultra. Couldn’t get past the first 10 minutes.

This is the end just isn't a very good movie IMO. Tropic thunder is fantastic though.

It has its moments, but yeah it's a complete vanity stoner film. Which is perfect when i desire cinematic junk food

Til Schweiger and Matthias Schweighöfer. I hope none of you have ever heard of them. They are just bad at acting and the movies where one of them is the director are just horrible... and still they are in sooo many german movies.

I enjoy them, they're easy to watch, I don't need much

Til Schweiger and Kristen Stewart, they each know exactly one facial expression.

Henry Cavill. I've got nothing against him, I just can't stand his face.

I have that face thing with Patrick Swayze and Meryl Streep. And the girl from Dirty Dancing. I am working on getting over Jennifer Lawrence's face. All these people are surely somewhat good actors but there is something about their faces that I cannot stand and it makes it impossible for me to focus on the plot. I just made it through Silver Linings Playbook today, finally, it was hard but I am glad I managed, Lawrence did a good job and I forgot about her face for almost 30% of the time. One day I will manage to watch more than 15 minutes of Dirty Dancing.

Is it the jaw/chin? How about Kurt Russell, Bruce Campbell, Jay Leno, Wings Hauser, Richard Kiel or Robert Z'Dar?

No, the people you mentioned are fine. I think it is something with the nose-chin-cheek combo that I find appalling.

For Jennifer Lawrence it's a separate thing, we have many similar features (like fat cheeks and hooded eyes) and it creeps me out too much and I get insecure watching her. I keep thinking how weird I must look and reevaluate my makeup the whole time, it's too stressful.

I also have a thing where I can't stop thinking of rooster anuses whenever I see Kevin Bacon (his mouth).

I want to emphasize that none of this is meant in a mean spirited way and those people are beautiful the way they are. It's my brain that makes these associations and I very much disapprove of them.

No reason to be ashamed. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that's a good thing. But it also means that you can never please everyone. You are happiest when you accept yourself as you are. And never compare you with Hollywood.
My text reads like fortune cookie advice, but it is meant honestly. Have a nice day.

Julia Stiles. Saw her in Save the Last Dance and some other movie and absolutely could not get on with the movie. It's like she's not acting or doesn't know how to act. She's kind of like in audition mode the entire time and I just don't get anything from her face or her actions. I sometimes get the same thing from Keanu but at least I like the movies he's in. With her I just rage quit 5 min in seeing her. She just ruins it for me. Also yes, also don't like The Rock. I'm sure we saw the same YouTube vid where the guy bashes on him for not knowing how to act as any other "character"... which when looking back, it's true. He's literally the same persona every god damn time.

Came here to say Julia Stiles but you totally beat me to it! I cannot stand any film she is in either. It's really hard to describe, but your description is spot-on. It's like an empty husk with makeup has been made to act.

Jason Bateman. Used to be Jeremy Renner and Tim Robbins so I guess it’s an unconscious bias against little guys with too-big faces for their features.

Ben Stiller

I just can’t. He makes me anxious just seeing him on screen. I so want to watch Meet the Fockers because DeNiro is one of my faves, I just can’t do it.

if it makes you feel better ben stiller just embarasses himself the whole movie

I'd be really curious to hear your thoughts after watching the secret life of Walter Mitty.

Will Ferrel, Jack Black... the rock is rapidly getting there. Jada Plinkett Smith.

Glen Powell.

It's like he was designed by a committee to make the most generic movie star white man imaginable.

He makes me want to buy a rape alarm, and I'm a man.

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised at all if he was revealed to not actually exist, and is in fact 100% CGI.

Tom Hanks. I'm not sure why, as he seems like a perfectly nice person, and even a good actor. But I just find him incredibly irritating for some reason.

I don't know the man but somehow Tom Hanks gives me the "very freaky but very good at hiding it" vibes. 🤷

Yes, exactly! There's a darkness there. Probably.

He needs to start subverting peoples expectations of him. Do a horror film and be the murderer or be a shitty corporate CEO or something.

Gal gadot and Elisabeth Moss for me. Also not a fan of Jason Momoa/Chris Hemsworth type of guys. Anything with them in the lead and I generally nope out. It has to do with the plain, flat, repetitive characters and lack of depth, not the physique (for example I respect dave Bautista evolution).

I struggle with Elizabeth Moss, too. The whole "being in a cult while making a show warning people about cults" thing is wild to me. Only other place I saw her was Mad Men and I found her unlikable. But I hated that whole show, really.

After your and the other commenter's post I had to go check, I didn't know she was in Scientology. Wow, that makes it even worse. Personally it is just her facial expression range (that is, a very narrow one), that irrationally makes her unlikable to me. I thought it was a good character representation in the first season of Handmaid's tale, but then once I realized that it's how she plays every character, or in every situation...

Elizabeth I'm ok with except I keep wanting to scream "leave the cult!" at the screen. Gal is gorgeous but bland

Gal is a terrible actress.

Like, a whole island full of warrior women had to put on an Israeli accept because she can't do anything else.

Jenna Ortega. For awhile I only saw her name in poor bastardizations of my favourite childhood media and it has soured me on her work entirely.

Since the snow white disaster, rachel zegler.

Also, I can't really watch til schweiger movies. Or most german "comedy" movies.

Yeah she just comes across as a pretentious little child who knows better than you. And I even agree with her on some things.

I will actively avoid anything of hers in the future.

Collin Farrel and Kristin Stewart.

They're just not good actors. They've been in a couple good movies, but those movies succeed despite, not because of them.

I disagree heavily with Collin Farrell! He sucks when he's in a big budget movie but he's fantastic when he does his little art films.

Check out In Bruges as a great example.

The rule I've always gone with is that if the average person knows the movie exists he probably sucks and otherwise he's fantastic.

Isn't he in penguin too? I enjoyed that character quite a lot.

You're right! I fully forgot about penguin!

Yep I think he's amazing! One of the best actors in the mega famous division

I always had this impression that Colin Farrell was just a pretty boy with no acting talent. But then I saw him in Banshees of Inisherin and my mind was blown. He was amazing - his performance absolutely gutted me. If you're willing to give him a try, you should watch that movie.

Absolutely! In Bruges, Banshees of Inisherin, but even older stuff. I am a weirdo and like the 2002 Phone Booth, for example.

Hey klem!

Hey friend! How's your Friday going?

Pretty good nice and quiet how is it with you?

It's not my favorite Friday ever - I had to have a colonoscopy this morning 😬 but afterward I had a huge breakfast and a 5 hour nap and I feel like a million bucks now!

Got anything good going on this weekend?

Oh no colonoscopies are never fun! Glad you had a huge breakfast after. I spent the morning running round doing errands and chores but I'm gonna have a boxset afternoon! What about you?

Melissa McCarthy does that for me. It's getting better, but for the longest time I'd see an interview with her about some project and she's funny, charming, intelligent, and convinces me to check it out. Then I would watch the thing and it's like "Haha fat girl poopoo fart." .

The only two things I can say that I enjoy her in are Spy and Only Murders in the Building.

In both cases the rest of the movie/show carries her but she doesn't actively make them worse like she does with 90% of the stuff I've ever seen her in...

Jude Law. He creeps me out so much I can't watch him. He's been in the news for domestic abuse which doesn't surprise me... I shudder watching him

Nick Cage.

Man’s not a bad actor, but he’s often cast in roles he has no earthly business being in.

Honestly, 7/10 of his castings are way off.

You beat me to it. I like(d) him in his early career, then it got to the point where pretty much everything I saw that had him in it sucked, so if he was in a movie, it was a sign to me to skip it. I have had a bit of a change of heart in some of his latest stuff, I'll at least consider watching it if there's a modicum of evidence that there are redeeming qualities to the movie overall.

The other aspect of it is that I used to think he was good looking when he was young, and then sometime in the late 90s or early 2000s he just seemed to turn physically repulsive to me. Part of it is his hair. I think if he ever got a good hair cut or played a part that involved wearing a decent hair piece, it might not be so bad.

Leaving Las Vegas is genuinely devastating and that was his 90s peak.

He does recapture some of that magic in a recent one called Pig but that film benefited from a bait and switch marketing where they implied it would be like John Wick but was actually completely different.

I've seen Pig mentioned before as one of the good ones, so maybe I'll give it a go one night when I have nothing else to lose. My favorite of his recentish movies is Renfield. Probably because I went in with low, low, low expectations and limited research, but it was much better than I was expecting.

His acting is hammy, but he does that on purpose. His philosophy on acting is the method thing is good but it isn't an artistic performance. He puts his personality on the character.

@notgivingmynametoamachine Come on. "Valley Girl" was a classic 😎 Fer sure Fer sure.

None. I dislike some actors, but so many other people pour part of themselves into these things and influence each other when developing them that it's impossible for me to not have at least some curiosity.

Matthew Broderick.

He's an alright actor, but seeing him always reminds me of that time he got drunk (rumored) and killed two people with his car in Ireland but faced almost zero repercussions (he got a small fine).

Gawd I'd forgotten until I saw your comment. How is he not condemned for it?

This was mostly pre internet and he's just never addressed it making it a non story. He claimed he had amnesia and couldn't remember the accident which definitely at least feels like it adds evidence to the drunk driving claims... But, nothing ever came of it.

He was driving with Jennifer grey, she's talked about it a bit and is obviously still traumatized, but she still backs up the 'he was sober' story that they managed to sell at the time.

Yes, that's true. And he's surely done something wrong to conveniently remember nothing, whether it was drink or not

Anthony Mackie

He has zero charisma and was largely responsible for bringing down the quality of Altered Carbon S2 (though the writers did him no favours) and was the most boring part of The Falcon & Winter Soldier.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the new Captain America movie mainly because of him being in the lead role.

Whole heartedly agree.

His Black Mirror episode was also probably the most fucked up episode, and not in the fucked up way I want my Black Mirror episodes.

Charlie Hunnam is not good, has a silly face, and cannot deliver lines.

I think that's honestly why I think he's fun. His king Arthur movie is a hardcore guilty pleasure as someone who enjoys the actual king Arthur myths...

Why the fuck did they try to make him a superhero???

It's just blind stupid fun but they don't have an ego attached like the rocks movies do

I dunno, I enjoyed the hell out of his acting in Sons of Anarchy

It’s true he’s been awful since Queer as Folk, but if you’ve heard his normal speaking voice in The Gentlemen it’s kind of understandable that his character accents always sound a bit forced.

Billy Bob Thornton. The prick.

Chris Pratt, Jack Black. Melissa McCarthy used to be on the list, but not anymore.

Surprisingly, Kevin Spacey isn't on there. The man is disgusting, but I really like his work.

What changed with Melissa McCarthy?

I loved her in Spy and Only Murders in the Building but I haven't seen anything she's been in for AWHILE otherwise

I can't stand comedy movies like Spy, or Identity Theft. That's what made me not like her. Exposure to her roles outside of that typecast changed my opinion. Like Only Murders. I also thought she made a very good Ursula.

Spy was a movie that felt like it was making fun of her other roles in a way that made me enjoy it. The subversive aspect was good. I fully understand why it wouldn't appeal to someone else though since it literally is the same character she's played in a ton of other stuff.
