What are your favourite meme subgenres?

I love me some surreal memes and anti memes.

I liked political compass memes at a time but comments always ruin those.

Do you mean genres like political, tech... or genres like shitpost, brainrot? Or something more specific? Like memes of chairs... or... moths?

I particularly used to get a kick out of the fifthworldproblems kind of surrealism back in the day

These days, I'm less particular, just make me laugh

Bone Hurting Juice!

Being super literal about what is shown in an extremely cartoonish comic is just peak comedy to me.

There are some very hilarious greentext out there if you can filter through the racist/sexist/misogynist ones disguised as jokes.

The Stop Doing X They have played us for absolute fools one.

You can mention topics if you'd like too. Like MOTHS

Is there a fuckmoths community? Because those things are fucking terrifying, and there should be.

I will personally sue anyone who dares make that community.

Infact I'll surround their house with lamps too

Sir/Madam/Other, I challenge you. The line must drawn, HERE!

Catchy songs like Shoebody Bop and Le Poisson Steve

There was an incredibly small moment where people were photoshopping horses into unrealistic places. I loved that.

Math memes (and science memes in general, when I can understand them)

I read that as moth.

Philosophy memes I always preferred to science

Philosophy memes are also awesome, though I rarely see them around

A bit of a niche one: I am a big fan of the TTRPG Lancer, and a popular meme format is describing things in the game by cutting and pasting bits of the rulebook like a classic ransom letter

None

  • Underpope
  • Eggplant vs. Computer
  • Mushroom Boyfriend
  • Sexually Ambitious Hamster / "Zebra Wants Me"
  • Geography Dog
  • Your Abstraction Causes Low-Quality Inference
  • Super Trogdor Bros.
  • Furry Sherlock Holmes / Furlock Mini Mysteries
  • Little Red Investing Hood
  • Mistress Floggerblogger Teaches Safe Sex
  • Classical Realism XKCD

Incredible list of specific. Good shit

the pack and trippin through time

I love trippin through time too

I miss r/okbuddyphd. It's possible to study so much it starts interfering with your ability to interact with normal people, who made more reasonable, balanced life choices, and that's what those memes spoke to.

Absurdist shitposts and things that look offensive at a glance but actually aren't

Or maybe we can think about the question and what it means and understand more about the world rather than judging.

Let's all touch grass, and then come back and think about what meme genres (or indeed subgenres) might mean together.

I feel like saying that on Lemmy is kind of self defeating. We're the people that were too nerdy and online for Reddit.
